You may be wondering what is behind the name – Yintarini Farm?
Yintarini is a Tiwi word.
According to the old Tiwi language dictionar, yintarini means “shoot of plant, sapling, plant when starting to grow beyond the shooting stage”.
For us, the young plant represents new life, hope and expectation of flourishing growth. We hope that Yintarini Farm will be a place of new life and growth in many different ways, from the regenerative approach we adopt to care for the land, to the ways we interact and work with people.
Adopting a Tiwi name also represents our connection to place – the Tiwi Islands – and the many years that Lucy worked there as a counsellor, and Wayne as a swimming teacher on week-long visits. All of our family got to visit the islands and experience the Tiwi culture, making lasting friendships, and it will forever be a special place in our hearts.
Yintarini Farm is named in honour of Elaine Tiparui (pictured below right), an Elder and mentor that has shaped and continues to influence the therapeutic approach that underpins Lucy’s outdoor counselling practice today. Yintarini Farm is a place where clients are welcomed for eco-therapy, to sit under a tree or beside the water, just like she did in Tiwi. It’s just one of the ways we further the work of two-way healing between people and country.
